Kaş Dive Sites by Level 2026: Beginner, Certified & Advanced

Kaş offers everything from closely supervised introductory dives to deep, current-sensitive aircraft and wreck sites. Do not choose only from a famous site name. The centre should match the site to certification, recent dives, depth experience, buoyancy, equipment familiarity and daily conditions.

Official tourism sources list Canyon, Dimitri/Pamuk Wreck, Besmi Island, Büyük Mağara, Uçanbalık and Limanağzı among Kaş’s best-known diving areas. Those names describe very different tasks and depth profiles.

This table is a planning framework, not a permission chart. The authorised centre and guide decide whether a specific diver is suitable for the exact site and profile.

1. Discovery and first underwater experience

A discovery dive should use a site and depth chosen for introductory supervision. It is not a shortened certified dive and should not be sold through the name of an advanced wreck.

• Medical questionnaire and stop procedure
• Equipment fitting and basic breathing, equalisation and communication briefing
• Easy entry, exit and controlled depth progression
• Clear explanation that the product does not create a full certification
• Written plan for a participant who cannot equalise or wishes to stop

2. Refresher and returning certified diver

A certified diver returning after a long break may need a refresher or easier check dive before a wreck, canyon, deeper wall or current-sensitive site.

• Review regulator recovery, mask skills, buoyancy and controlled ascent.
• Check computer operation and gas monitoring.
• Practise alternate-air and buddy procedures where required.
• Confirm DSMB or boat-recovery expectations.
• Use an easier first dive so the guide can assess trim, breathing and response to instructions.
• Do not treat a certification card issued years ago as proof of current site readiness.

3. Reef, island and wall diving

Besmi Island, Limanağzı and other reef or island sites can support varied profiles. The centre should state whether the plan is a shallow reef, deeper wall, current drift or photography-focused route.

• Wall positioning and lost-buddy procedure

4. Canyon and Dimitri/Pamuk Wreck

Official regional sources describe Canyon as one of Kaş’s signature sites and link it with the Dimitri/Pamuk wreck. A canyon plus wreck profile can increase depth, navigation and buoyancy task load.

• Ask whether the dive includes the canyon, wreck, both or an alternative route.
• Confirm the planned maximum depth and bottom-time logic.
• Separate external wreck observation from any restricted or overhead route.
• Check current, visibility and descent-line use.
• Do not enter or touch a wreck merely because an opening is visible.
• Ask what easier site replaces the plan when the diver or conditions do not match.

5. Dakota aircraft artificial reef

GoTürkiye identifies the Douglas C-47 Dakota as an aircraft sunk in 2009 to create an artificial reef at about 22 metres. That depth may fall within some recreational qualifications, but the card alone does not prove readiness.

• Recent dives near the planned depth
• Stable buoyancy around fragile growth and enclosed structures
• External route versus any opening or penetration rule
• Computer, no-decompression and gas-reserve plan
• Guide position and group size
• Photography without contact or loss of depth control

6. Büyük Mağara and cave-like environments

A site marketed with “cave” or “mağara” language can range from an open cavern-like formation to a route with stronger overhead implications. Ask for a precise description.

• Is natural daylight continuously visible?
• Is there a direct open-water ascent throughout?
• What training and guide qualification apply?
• What light, line and gas rules apply?
• How many divers enter at one time?
• Can a diver choose an exterior route instead?

7. Uçanbalık: deep experienced-diver site

Official GoTürkiye material describes Uçanbalık as a site for master or experienced divers and places the Savoia-Marchetti SM79 aircraft wreck around 55–71 metres. This is not a normal recreational holiday-dive recommendation.

• Proper technical or deep-diving training for the planned profile
• Appropriate gases, redundancy and decompression planning
• Experienced team and surface support
• Current, descent, visibility and lost-line procedures
• Emergency oxygen, evacuation and chamber plan
• No attempt to qualify by confidence, number of holiday dives or a generic advanced card alone

• Confirm whether the centre accepts the participant’s international certification and what limits it applies.
• Do not rely on XPTurk for medical clearance or medication advice.

Decision framework

• First-time participant: choose a discovery product at a controlled introductory site.
• Returning certified diver: begin with a refresher or easier check dive.
• Current recreational diver: compare reef, island, wall and suitable wreck profiles.
• Experienced deep/technical diver: discuss Uçanbalık or other demanding sites only through a properly qualified and equipped plan.
