Bodrum Diving Guide 2026: Reefs, Walls, Currents & Artificial Wrecks

Choose the Bango reefs or another suitable shallow profile when the goal is an introductory or standard recreational dive. Choose Kargı, Orak or an artificial wreck only when the exact route, depth, current and recent experience match.

Muğla’s official tourism sources describe Bodrum as a region with natural reefs, walls, current-sensitive island sites and deliberately created ship and aircraft wrecks. The peninsula also has many departure harbours, so “Bodrum diving” does not identify the actual boat, site or travel time.

Büyük and Küçük Bango

Muğla’s official diving page describes Büyük Bango as a shallow reef top around 4 m with surrounding areas reaching roughly 28–32 m, and Küçük Bango as a nearby reef with a top around 5–6 m and a bottom around 28–30 m.

• Ask whether the route remains on the shallow reef or follows the deeper edge.
• Confirm maximum planned depth and group separation.
• Use stable buoyancy around reef and amphora fragments.
• Check current, visibility and boat traffic.
• Do not collect or move archaeological material.

Kargı Island

Official tourism material describes Kargı Island as a site with amphora fragments, rocky formations and depths extending from about 5 m toward 25 m and beyond, with possible strong current toward Kos during parts of the year.

Orak Island wall

Muğla’s official diving page describes Orak as a dramatic wall site with portions reaching 65–70 m. That published depth is regional context—not a recommendation for a normal recreational holiday dive.

• Confirm the actual recreational or technical profile.
• Ask whether the group remains on a shallower wall section.
• Check recent wall and depth experience.
• Confirm current, gas, computer and ascent procedures.
• Do not let the wall’s depth pull the group beyond the declared plan.

Artificial wrecks

Muğla’s official tourism material states that Bodrum has deliberately created ship and aircraft wreck areas reached by dive boats from different resort zones. The seller must identify the exact wreck and route.
