Pamukkale South Gate vs North Gate 2026: Which Entrance Should You Use?

Choose South Gate when you want quicker access to the central Hierapolis/travertine area or a shorter out-and-back visit. Choose North Gate when the ancient-city approach and necropolis are part of the experience and you are comfortable with a longer walk.

Current summer 2026 hours

Official Denizli cultural-site information for 1 June–30 September 2026 lists Pamukkale–Hierapolis North and South gate visitor start at 08:00, daytime ticket sales ending at 18:45, night-museum operation beginning at 19:00, ticket offices closing at 21:00 and night-museum operation ending at 23:00.

These hours are seasonal. Do not reuse them for winter or a later year without checking the current official notice.

• You are arriving by private car or tour vehicle and want a simpler central-site start.
• Your group has limited tolerance for long exposed walking.

Current visitor guidance describes the North Gate approach as a longer route through the necropolis before reaching the central Hierapolis and travertine area. That can be a strength when archaeology is a major reason for visiting rather than an obstacle to the terraces.

• You prefer a one-way route that unfolds from outer ancient city toward the terraces.
• You have enough time for a larger Hierapolis visit.
• You can manage the additional walking or have confirmed a suitable internal transport option.

The one-way route problem

Entering one gate and exiting another can create a transport problem. A North → Town or South → Town route may be attractive on foot, but your car, tour bus or transfer may still be parked elsewhere.

• Ask whether your driver can collect from a different gate.
• Check current taxi, shuttle or local transport before committing to a one-way exit.
• Do not assume the ticket allows re-entry after exiting.

Travertine walkway is a separate timing constraint
