Alaçatı Windsurfing & Kitesurfing Guide 2026: Lessons, Rental & Wind

Alaçatı is the strongest XPTurk starting point for a windsurf-first holiday in Türkiye. Its protected bay, shallow training water and mature school/rental ecosystem suit beginners and experienced windsurfers; kitesurfing is also available, but use the sport-specific launch area and school rather than assuming the whole bay operates the same way.

Why Alaçatı is different

GoTürkiye and the İzmir Provincial Directorate describe Alaçatı as Türkiye’s most prominent windsurf destination. Official tourism material highlights the protected bay, persistent wind and shallow water as key reasons it works for both beginner and advanced windsurfing.

Official İzmir tourism information identifies the main windy windsurf season as roughly May–October. GoTürkiye specifically describes May–September as the period when windsurfers from around the world most commonly arrive. Treat both as broad planning windows, not a promise of suitable wind every day.

Current Alaçatı schools advertise lessons for all levels and equipment rental. Do not choose a lesson only by duration; instructor ratio, equipment choice and actual water time matter more.

Current kitesurf course example

A current Alaçatı kitesurf school markets a six-hour private beginner program or nine-hour group program, split across two or three days depending on wind and participant progress. The course covers launch/landing, safety systems, body drag, board recovery, water start, two-direction riding and self-rescue. This is an operator example rather than a universal minimum.

• What independent-rider level is required?
• Is a short assessment or orientation required?
• Which board and sail/kite sizes are available?
• Can equipment be changed as the wind changes?
• What is included in the damage policy?
• Is storage available for your own equipment?
• What is the rescue/assistance policy if you cannot return to the launch?

Crowding and traffic

Alaçatı’s strength—many schools and many riders—also creates traffic. A shallow bay is not automatically an empty or low-risk bay. Ask the school which training area is used, where advanced riders pass, what right-of-way rules are emphasized and how lessons are separated from independent traffic.

Stay in Alaçatı town or near the surf bay?

• Alaçatı town: stronger restaurant and evening atmosphere, but expect daily transfer to the water.
• Surf-bay area: easier equipment and lesson logistics, but less of the historic-village evening experience.
• Çeşme base: broader resort/coast options; verify transfer or rental car logistics.

1. Is this windsurf or kitesurf instruction and at which launch area?
2. Who is the instructor and what current qualification applies?
3. How many students share one instructor?
4. How many actual instruction hours are included?
5. What equipment is included and how is it sized?
6. What happens if wind is too light, too strong or wrong-direction for my level?
7. What rental assessment is required after training?
8. What rescue, damage, cancellation and unused-hour terms apply?
